Nanoemulsion ~50 nm (DLS-confirmed) is one of the most advanced forms of increasing the bioavailability of polyphenols.
In the world of modern supplementation, one key question has been recurring for years:
Why do such potent compounds as curcumin and resveratrol work much less well than laboratory studies suggest?
The answer in most cases is simple:
it’s not a matter of dose – just bioavailability.
The problem: limited bioavailability of polyphenols
Polyphenols such as xanthohumol, curcumin, quercetin and resveratrol are among the best-studied compounds with antioxidant potential and support for the body’s balance.
At the same time, they have one thing in common:
very low solubility in water (hydrophobicity).
In practice, this means that:
- A significant portion of the dose is not absorbed,
- compounds are degraded in the stomach environment,
- Hepatic metabolism (the so-called first-pass effect) limits their presence in the bloodstream.

Solution: liposomal nanoemulsion ~50 nm (DLS)
Our formulations were analyzed using the Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) method, which allows us to determine the actual size of particles in solution.
Below are the actual results of the laboratory analysis (DLS):

DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) analysis results for xanthohumol nanoemulsion – average particle size: 48.21 nm, PdI: 0.206. Quality result: good.
The following parameters were obtained for the test sample:
- Z-Average: 48.21 nm
Scale below 50 nm indicates high dispersion capacity and potentially more effective penetration through biological barriers. - PdI: 0.206
Low polydispersity index indicates good system homogeneity and formulation stability. - Lipid composition of plant origin
Formulation based exclusively on natural phospholipids, without synthetic emulsifiers.
The technological process includes controlled homogenization and stabilization of the lipid system to obtain a stable nanoemulsion with reproducible parameters.
Getting the right particle size is the first step.
The key, however, is whether the system remains stable over time.
The described formulation of xanthohumol is also available in the form of a finished product, prepared to order using liposomal nanoemulsion technology – see Xantohumol liposomal.
Stability of nanoemulsion over time
One of the key challenges in nanoemulsion technology is not only getting the particle size right, but also maintaining its stability over time.
The study analyzed the system’s destabilization kinetics(TSI – Turbiscan Stability Index), which allows assessing whether the nanoemulsion retains its physicochemical properties.
The actual results of the stability test are shown below:

Nanoemulsion Stability Study (TSI – Turbiscan Stability Index) – analysis of system changes over time.
Interpretation:
- A low and predictable increase in TSI indicates a controlled rearrangement,
- The lack of rapid spikes means no rapid aggregation of molecules,
- The formulation remains stable over the analyzed period.
Stability of the system is one of the key elements affecting the repeatability of performance and quality of the final product.
Why sublingual administration?
The nanoemulsions are designed for sublingual (sublingual) administration, which changes the way the substance is distributed in the body:
- bypassing the stomach environment,
- Faster absorption through the mucosa,
- Partial restriction of first-pass metabolism in the liver.
Combined with a particle size of ~50 nm, this can enhance the efficiency of active ingredient utilization.
We describe more extensively the mechanisms of increasing bioavailability using curcumin as an example in the article: Liposomal curcumin – bioavailability, effects and comparison with infusions.
Synergy of ingredients
Green Hemp Poland’s formulations are being developed to combine different polyphenols in a single liposomal system.
We are currently working on the individual components separately, optimizing their stability, particle size and bioavailability.
In the next stages of development, more complex formulations are planned, combining, among other things:
- Xanthohumol – a compound derived from hops
- Resveratrol – widely analyzed in metabolic studies
- Curcumin and quercetin – compounds with well-documented biological activity
This approach makes it possible to first gain maximum control over each component and then, potentially, build systems based on synergies of action.
Summary
The parameters obtained(~48 nm / PdI 0.2) and the results of the stability analysis indicate a high level of technological sophistication of the formulation and good quality of the system.
This is the direction in which modern supplementation is developing:
not by increasing the dose, but by optimizing the form.
The technology described in the article is applied to specific formulations available from Green Hemp Poland.
